Project Chiapas

Supporting indigenous farming communities in the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico through collective impact projects.

Our Efforts in Chiapas to Date

For more than a decade, OTG has provided support for indigenous farming communities throughout Chiapas, Mexico.

Over these years, OTG has provided support in many collective ways at the request of the communities. The support has come through numerous types of projects: clean-water initiatives; climate focused agronomy education; and alternative income solutions.

Our work has provided over 5,200 chronically undeserved people across 15 communities access to clean water. In addition to funding physical water systems, latrines, and communal wash areas, OTG has helped educated local water committees– often composed of young, future community leaders– to maintain the projects and to teach better sanitation practices.

Another key area of focus has been to fund Field School Agronomy Education programs to support farmer resilience with respect to climate change. Over the last 3 years, OTG has trained over 20 agronomy leaders to bring resiliency solutions back to their respective communities. These solutions are shared amongst farmers and are applied to coffee growing and local food production.

As we look to the future, we plan to bring additional needs at the request of the communities. These needs include: first responder/paramedic training; electricity; social justice support; and continued agronomy initiatives.
