COVID-19 Pandemic
When COVID-19 reached the Eastern DRC, coffee washing stations were among the few places where large numbers of people still gathered daily. On the Ground moved quickly to make them safer.

A $3,000 rapid deployment placed 45 handwashing stations with the Sopacdi, Muungano, and Amka cooperatives, reaching thousands of farmers, sorters, and washing-station workers during harvest.
The same infrastructure and community-education habits built during this response were reactivated for the region's later outbreaks — including the 2026 Ebola response.
