Mt. Nyiragongo Eruption
When Mount Nyiragongo erupted in May 2021, hundreds of thousands of people fled Goma with nothing. On the Ground was stationed at the government's designated evacuation point in Minova.

Working through cooperative partners already living and farming in the area, On the Ground served more than 500 meals a day to evacuees arriving in Minova, at a cost of roughly one dollar per person per day.
The response is a template for how the organization works in a crisis: no new infrastructure, no delay, and money spent through people the community already trusts.
